WGBH 89.7 just played a great record of Char­lie Parker’s jazz ensem­ble per­form­ing live in the mid-1950′s. And at the end of the per­for­mance, a stereo­typ­i­cally sten­to­rian filmstrip-narrator voice intoned, “We’ll see you again here next week, live in Ken­more Square, Boston.”

Wait a sec­ond… there was once some cul­ture in Kenmore?

Yes, but I’m too late. The scene was in the decline by the late 1970′s, around the same time B.U. started mov­ing in. Imag­ine if we could co-exist in time: B.B. King might be play­ing down the street from Cruft­labs.
