I ran into the inimitable Tim Anderson today. He just got back from Costa Rica and Nicaragua, meeting people and collecting information about low tech modern life. Apparently he has a gig writing a column on “heirloom technology” for a new magazine called Make, soon to begin publication by O’Reilly.
I’m glad Tim O’Reilly (who, incidentally, I met a few years ago) has made a mission out of giving gadget-toting hipster geek types an inoculation of good ol’ American “do-it-yourself” attitude.
Says their web page: “…We chose to focus on cool things you can do with technology, not just what to buy… Our goal is that all of us can learn to become makers, just as we might learn to cook or use woodworking tools.”
