Infuriating. I have learned that the UK is the only major country which does not permit hand-inspection of photographic film carried by passengers on commercial airliners. You are required to have it blasted with X-rays.
And without any kind of announcement, UPS and FedEx have both added clauses to their terms of service which allow them to X-ray any package you ship with them—even if it is labelled “do not X-ray!”
The only remaining options are to process the film at a British lab, or to ship it home by courier.
I don’t understand why a place like London would be so uniquely hostile to photographers. But at least I learned in advance.
