I won’t attempt to report on the events of the evening. The good news
is that it was a lot of fun. Check out that DeLorean.
The bad news—for me, at least—is that I screwed up nearly all of the lecture pictures. One of the more exciting parts of the photographic process is the moment when you pull the film out of the dryer and slap it down on the light table. Unfortunately tonight, a great amount of swearing was directed at the magnifying loupe. The lecturers are clearly in the plane of focus, yet they still look fuzzy. Finally I checked my camera bag and confirmed that I am stupid. My 105mm lens has a special soft-focus feature for portraiture, which I had unwittingly left on at a rather extreme level. This is surprising because I never use it.
